The Division of Planning for the City of Indianapolis, Indiana, is within the Department of Metropolitan Development. There are five sections in the Division of Planning: Current Planning, Comprehensive Planning, Information Resources and Policy Analysis, Subarea Planning, and Transportation Planning. The Current Planning section evaluates and administers land use petitions, maintains zoning ordinances, provides staff for public hearings, and maintains the GIS zoning base maps. The Comprehensive Planning section prepares studies and analyzes data relating to land use and prepares the Marion County Comprehensive Plan. The Information Resources and Policy Analysis section researches and analyzes demographic and census data and disseminates the information through printed reports and the internet. The Subarea Planning section is involved with neighborhood, corridor, redevelopment area, and economic development area plans. The Transportation Planning section serves as the staff for the Metropolitan Planning Organization and provides planning for air quality and transportation-related issues such as streets, highways, mass transit, and other modes of travel

Indiana 2016 will strengthen Indiana by educating about, inspiring and recognizing the active involvement of Hoosiers in their communities.
Just over 200 years ago - July 4, 1800 - the Indiana Territory was carved out of what was then America's new frontier. Those early Hoosiers shared a commitment to the vision of statehood and just 16 short years later Indiana became a reality. Now, as we sit at the dawn of a new millennium, what can we Hoosiers set our minds to and accomplish in the same period of time. What do we want Indiana to be on its 200th birthday in 2016?
